Top VPNs New Zealand Review 2017 – PC/Android/Mac/Gaming

Hey, everybody! I’m Oliver NZ GuyThompson and I’ve created this site to help my fellow Kiwis choose the absolute best VPNs in New Zealand.

As a native of Napier, I’ve been very fortunate to live in a place where I was able to educate myself about the world of computers and the future of technology. During my time at the Eastern Institute of Technology, I learned the ins and outs of the IT world and my friends would constantly turn to me for information about the latest trends.

That’s when I had the idea for this site. I wanted to be able to help people with limited resources find out all that they need to know about VPNs and cyber security. I was on the fence about doing this for the longest time, if for no other reason than I’m kind of lazy. 🙂

But after I saw PwC’s latest Global State of Information Security Survey and found out about the true extent of the cyber attacks that New Zealand companies and citizens are facing, I knew it was time to share this information with the public.

Whether you live in the wops and you’re working on conspiracy theory videos or you’re a struggling writer doing some research on your laptop at your local Macca’s, you can surf the Web and work on your projects without feeling vulnerable.

Hackers and identity thieves prey on people who are seemingly ignorant to the VPN trend. They attack people who leave themselves open for such an attack. You don’t have to be one of these mates who attracts malware and ransomware and all that other jazz.

Today, I hope to show you that it’s actually a piece of piss to achieve anonymity on the Internet and for far less than you’d probably think.

My go-to VPN for New Zealand is Express VPN. It’s the fastest VPN I’ve used and the easiest to set up. You simply sign in to your account, select your set up and a prompt will come up on the left side of your screen where you can choose manual configuration.

After you do that, again, it’s a piece of piss. You just select OpenVPN (or PPTP, your choice) on the right side of your screen, and you’re Bob’s your uncle. You’re covered, bro. It’s really that easy.

Some of the VPNs out there have extremely complicated interfaces, but Express is one of the best and they take the headache out of the whole process.

Below, I’ll show you the best VPNs for New Zealand then I’ll tell you a bit about the VPN that you should go out of your way to avoid. Buyer beware and all that, yeah?

Avoid Free VPNS - Don't Have Your Info Sold to 3rd Parties
I would strongly recommend not utilizing free VPNS servers for some simple reasons. User data is routed through a central hub that collects and aggregates information. This information is then sold to 3rd parties. User information is commoditized and sold to pay for the “free” VPN. If you’re not looking to spend money on a VPN, I would suggest simply not using one.

Express VPN—Fastest & Most Secure

Express VPN LogoFor starters, there are offers online where you can get a three-month ExpressVPN trial for free. That’s how much confident the service’s creators are that you will enjoy your experience using it. They also offer a 30-day money back guarantee where a lot of VPNs only offer a three-day money back guarantee or no guarantee at all.

Express is a trusted service with speeds in excess of 60Mbps. It’s user-friendly, consistently performs and works for a wide variety of things from Netflix and gaming to Facebook and Torrenting. It’s the perfect platform for streaming, sports, travel and more.

I’ve used Express VPN longer than any other VPN and I can attest to just how dependable it is when it comes to performance and connection.

VyPr VPN—Second Best Choice for Kiwis

Vypr VPNThis is a terrific alternative to Express VPN. With VyPr VPN, you get low monthly rates, unlimited bandwidth and exceptional speeds. VyPr VPN was one of the first VPNs I tested and I was very pleased with the results.

I found their customer service team to be friendly and informative. Any kinks that I experienced were swiftly and easily resolved. VyPr is compatible across a wide variety of platforms including iOS, Android, Windows, Mac and Linux.

VyPr provides multiple connections and a “Refer a Friend” program which rewards users with a free month of service for you and the friend you refer. It’s a pretty cool feature that not all VPNs offer.

  • Connector.Connector.

    Optimal Security

With VyPr VPN, you can access all content safely and securely. No more censorship. No more geo-restricted sites. You can surf the Web without fear that someone will spy on your conversations or browsing history. VyPr VPN also blocks any malicious content by running an automatic check on the questionable URL.

    Competetive Pricing

With plans starting at just five dollars (3 simultaneous connections), they are as cheap as they are secure.

PureVPN—A Good Runner-Up

Pure VPN LogoIf you’re on a tight budget, you might want to go with PureVPN since they’re every bit as good as the others on this list for slightly less money. With a one-year subscription, you’ll only pay $5 per month. This affords you unlimited bandwidth and total security coverage.

PureVPN also offers Cyber Monday deals and other discounts. You get awesome speed and add-on features like Firewall and dedicated IP. The only thing that kinda sucks about this one is the slow speed at which you get online with this one. That and you only get ad-blocking if you’re using Chrome.

Other than that, this one is a viable option for Kiwis who are looking to crank out work online without prying eyes scrutinizing your info.

Another excellent choice, Pure VPN delivers all the bells and whistles you could ask for from anti-virus and anti-malware to URL filtering and ad-blocking. Their intrusion detection and prevention systems are the perfect tool for avoiding malicious programs.

HideMyAss—Stay Away from This Service!

HideMyAss LogoNow that we’ve talked about the best of the best, let’s talk about the worst of the worst. HideMyAss is as shady as its name would suggest. Even though it’s simple to set up, virtually everything else about it leaves something to be desired.

For starters, it only allows for 2 simultaneous connections and HideMyAss’s customer support is lackluster at best. When I tested it out, I experienced connectivity problems almost immediately. When I contacted customer support, I didn’t receive a response for two days and what I got was vague and curt.

I’ve talked to several people who were associated with HideMyAss or used it themselves and they all claim that HideMyAss saves user logs which is fairly counter-intuitive when one considers why VPNs are used in the first place.

To add insult to injury, HideMyAss regularly disables user accounts when users attempt to download certain content such as BitTorrent or stream specific shows. All in all, this one couldn’t get much worse.

I do not recommend this to anybody. They have no ad-blocker, they record session logs and they frequently disable accounts at will. From poor customer reviews to poor performance, this one’s an overall stinker.

What is a VPN?

how-vpn-protects-youIf you got this far on my page, I would assume that you understand the fundamentals of VPNs, but you know what they say—Assuming makes an ass out of u and me. So with that in mind, here’s what you need to know about VPNs.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. A VPN enables you to add privacy and security to your PC or other electronic device. For a long time, VPNs were used exclusively by large corporations, but in more recent years, VPNs have become widely accessible to the general public.

Today, users the world over utilize VPNs to protect themselves from malicious attacks by hackers, trolls and more.

Why Do I Need a VPN?

As I mentioned earlier, New Zealand has suffered from a series of cybercrimes recently and it’s only going to get worse before it gets better. Now is the time to block cyber criminals from accessing sensitive information and/or stealing your identity/data.

how-encryption-worksElectronic crime has been on the rise in New Zealand for quite some time. In August, it was reported that 364 attacks and incidents were reported during the course of a three-month operation. VPNs work to prevent fraud, harassment, etc.

Are VPNs Safe To Use?

100%. VPNs are the safest solution for those spending time using desktop computers, laptops, cell phones or tablets.

how hackers can steal your information

How Difficult Are VPNs to Use?

You don’t have to be a scholar to use VPNs. Your average bogan can operate a VPN with very little technical knowledge. Most VPNs can be set up quickly and easily.

Can I Use a VPN on my Phone or Tablet?

No worries, bro! Most VPN services are compatible with phones and/or tablets. I’ll clue you in on which services are ideal for your specific device.
